Dumbledore’s Army Reunites at Quidditch World Cup Final: New Post-Potter Piece by JK Rowling Hints at More Potter to Come?

If you’re a member of JK Rowling’s famed Pottermore, a website devoted to everything Harry Potter (and more), you were greeted to a treat today: JK Rowling has posted a new “story” of sorts on Tuesday, July 8th; it’s an article from the Daily Prophet by the famed Rita Skeeter, written — of course — like a piece from the National Enquirer in her signature defamatory style.

In the piece, which focuses on now-34 year old Harry, Ron, and Hermione, Skeeter reports about their appearance at this year’s Quidditch World Cup causing a frenzy, which no doubt leads to wild speculation about the three and their current state of affairs…

… questioning whether or not Harry and Ginny are still as happily married as they claim to be publicly …

… hinting that Ron left the Ministry of Magic because he couldn’t stand to work in Harry’s shadow …

… suggesting that Hermione merely settled for Ron when she couldn’t have Harry.

It’s no secret that Rowling has publicly stated that she should have written Harry and Hermione as the central couple, or at least had them end up together. In an interview for Wonderland conducted by actress Emma Watson, who plays the crazy-haired heroine Hermione, Rowling stated:

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really,” Rowling says in the interview. “For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

“I know, I’m sorry,” she adds. “I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

One has to wonder whether this new piece by “Skeeter” is really Rowling scratching her itch to write (or rewrite) some new Potter stories. After all, underneath all of Skeeter’s hyperbolic writing was always a kernel of [some] truth.

In any event, it’s great to read fresh Harry Potter-flavored Rowling. It definitely whets the appetite for more Potter stories, and if the last paragraph of the article is any indication, Potter fans may actually get their wish.

Or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking (and hoping, and dreaming, and praying…) I’m STILL waiting for a gay teen Dumbledore trilogy, Ms. Rowling!

Check out the piece, “Dumbledore’s Army Reunites at Quidditch World Cup Final” on Pottermore now!

    1. I HOPE you’re sharing this link with all of these friends…

hahaha JK, but seriously. BUT JK. BUT SERIOUSLY.

And YES, JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON DUDE! I’ll lend you ALL the books! They’re seriously so well-written and detailed and writerly and MAGIC.

  1. Ya know, I’ve always wanted to go back and actually read them all. I kinda stopped after the fourth or fifth and ended up just waiting for the movies to come out.. Sad, I know, but now that Pottermore is a thing I may go ahead and start over.

    1. Ahhh! The 6th and 7th books were the BEST books! You definitely need to go back and re-read the series! And if you watched the 6th, 7th, and 8th films, you’ll learn that, in the books, there is SO MUCH MORE than was left out, including an entire backstory/storyline about Dumbledore and the Elder Wand. I’m actually planning on re-reading this summer. I haven’t re-read them since the last film came out (which was a ritual I had, before each new movie, I’d read the whole series start to finish.) I’ve read them like a zillion times at this point! (Aaaaand now I revealed just how crazy I am haha)
